Simple Sugar Scrub for a DIY Christmas Gift Kids Can Make

(This post contains Amazon affiliate links. Read my full disclosure.)

I just love a good sugar scrub for my hands! They leave my skin so smooth and silky. Sugar scrubs also make a great last-minute gift because they are so easy to make, with ingredients many people already have at home. This is a simple gift kids can make for teachers or other special people for Christmas or any time of year.

This post contains affilliate links.

My 4 year old actually made this mostly by himself, with just a little guidance from me. This sugar scrub was really simple and quick to make. We want to make more for teachers and neighbors!

How to Make This Simple Sugar Scrub for a DIY Christmas Gift Kids Can Make:

Two basic ingredients are needed to make a sugar scrub: sugar, and oil.

Here we used regular white granulated sugar and coconut oil here. We have made this recipe with olive oil before, but it makes the finished product with a yellowish tint. The coconut leaves us with a nice white color, which we think looks like snow – perfect for winter!

Many people like to make these scented by adding extracts or essential oils, but we chose to leave those out this time and keep it super simple. But to make it more festive for Christmastime, we added round sprinkles (nonpareils) in red, white, and green.

What you need:

This recipe makes one 4 oz jar of sugar scrub.

  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Coconut Oil (softened)*
  • 1 tablespoon Round Christmas Sprinkles (nonpareils) **
  • 4 oz glass jar with lid
  • string, ribbon, gift tag, and/or markers, etc, to decorate the jar

* The coconut oil should be a thick liquid consistency. Since coconut oil hardens at cooler room temperatures, outs was a solid. I just put it into the microwave for 10 seconds, stirred it, and it was good to go!

** Thes Wilton nonpareils are what that we used. These particular nonpareils did not bleed into the rest of the scrub. I have not tested other brands. If you try another brand or type of sprinkles, other substitute ingredients in this recipe, you may want to test a small batch before making many.

How To Make The Christmas Sugar Scrub With Kids:

Add 1/2 cup sugar to a bowl. Add the 2 tablespoons softened coconut oil to the sugar and stir to combine.

Keep stirring until mixed. It should have a soft, fluffy consistency as shown above.

Next, add the sprinkles and stir.

The sugar scrub is complete! Now it’s time to package it up and make it pretty.

Using a spoon, add the sugar scrub to a 4 oz glass jar until it’s full.

Isn’t it pretty?!

Put the lid on and decorate with string, ribbon, a gift tag, stickers, crayons, markers, etc.

We used red and white string to attach a gift tag. On one side I wrote out the ingredients to this sugar scrub, and the kids decorated the other side.

To Use:

  1. Wet hands with warm water.
  2. Using a spoon, scoop some scrub onto palm and gently massage onto hands.
  3. Rinse with warm water.
  4. Pat dry (keep in mind this is oil-based, so you may want to use a paper towel).

Such a cute and festive gift for the Holidays!
