This week as a part of the Virtual Book Club for Kids, we made colorful, feathery owls as a fun owl color matching activity! We are enjoying these themes every week, and this one is a favorite… owls! I’ve always loved owls and my toddler also really likes them. In fact, he is dressing up as one for Halloween this year.

Owl Color Matching Activity:
- Play dough in varying colors
- Feathers in matching colors
- googly eyes
- orange paper, cut into triangles
- a cup
To prepare this activity, I first made the owl bodies. To do this I flattened the playdough and used a cup to cut a circle shape. Next, I used the same cup to cut a half-circle into the top to make the top of the owls head. I repeated this with each color.
Next, we put two large googly eyes and a triangle nose onto each owl shape.
I told my preschooler and toddler that the owls needed their feathers for wings, and to match each feather to the same color body. They got straight to work matching the colors! They worked as a team, with Big Bro helping Little Bro figure out how to stick the feathers into the sides of the owl shape.
It ended up being great fine motor practice!
Now our colorful owls can fly!
