This week we started making Valentines day cards. I thought it would be fun to use heart stamps to make them, so I made some DIY heart stamps out of recycled wine corks!
Make a Heart Stamp from a Wine Cork:
I made the heart stamps on my own while the boys were busy. Creating the stamp is defiantly an adult project! You’ll need a sharp X-Acto knife to carefully cut away the cork pieces. The spongy/softer corks work best.
- Use a sharpie to draw a heart shape on the flat surface of the cork.
- Use an X-Acto knife to cut along the outside of the heart, all the way around.
- Cut in from the side until the knife until the knife meets up with the edge of the heart shape.
- Peel and cut away the parts of the cork that aren’t needed.
Make a Valentines Day Card With the Cork Heart Stamps:
Now it was time to get the boys involved.
We found that using a thin layer of paint spread onto a paper plate worked well to dip the stamp into before stamping it onto our cards. A stamp pad would work even better.
I tested out the stamps first and they worked really well and were easy to use since the cork acts as a handle for the stamp.
For the cards, I cut a heart shape from white paper and taped it to the front of the card.
The boys stamped hearts all around the top of the heart (being sure to go around the edges). This way we could peel the white paper up after the paint dried to reveal a big heart shape. This worked well since they wanted to go all over with the stamps.
After we peeled the heard shape off of the front, we opened the card and glued it into the inside to write “I <3 You” with it. We wrote “Happy Valentines Day!” in the heart on the outside.
